Mitsubishi ASX is something special

Concept car looks and family car practicality mark out the Mitsubishi ASX as something special.

And with our love of cars that carry plenty of high-spec features, news that Mitsubishi has added a new top-of-the-range model to the ASX line-up will make it only more of a temptation.

ASX brings what many owners crave. It’s a great looking car but its compact SUV styling means it comes with a practical shape that maximises interior space. Of course, when you have a cargo as precious as your spouse and children on board, it’s good to know that seven airbags around the interior have resulted in the ASX gaining five stars for safety from EuroNCAP, the independent testing organisation.

It’s crash test performance is enhanced by special safety techniques in its construction so that, if the worst happens, there is extra protection built in. But the best thing is to avoid accidents altogether, so the ASX bristles with technology that helps drivers and their passengers stay safe.

Mitsubishi has gone to great lengths to ensure you can have the SSX that exactly suits your needs, so you can choose from petrol or diesel engines, manual or automatic transmissions, and front or all wheel drive.

In today’s demanding road conditions, 4x4 ability is as much about safety as it is about being to mix it with the best in off-road conditions. With its hard-working Shogun and L200 models, Mitsubishi knows all there is to know about making tough 4x4s. While the ASX is happy churning mud alongside them, its 4x4 transmission also beings on-road surefootedness in poor road conditions, makin g it perfect for the heavy rain that seems to afflict us more and more.

New to the line-up is a 1.6 litre diesel that has such low emissions there’s currently no road tax to pay in the first year. But there’s also a 2.2 litre diesel that can be specified with an automatic gearbox in the ZC-H and very latest ASX 5 models. The latter includes a Nappa leather interior with a choice of three colours (Claret Red, Porcelain Cream and Gunmetal Grey), a premium carpet mat set and boot mat with colour-coded piping to match the leather, premium Alpine audio, heated rear seats, twin rear USB charging ports, LED mood lighting, LED interior lights, and front-door entry guards to bring a limousine feel to a sensibly sized car that’s perfect for urban use.

Not that other ASX models will be found lacking in the features they offer. The entry-level ASX ZC comes fully loaded with equipment such as alloy wheels, air conditioning, Active Stability and Traction Control, remote keyless entry, and those five-star seven airbags. Other great features are a USB port, chrome grille and waistline moulding, privacy glass, chrome exhaust finisher, cup holder in the rear arm rest, and a high-contrast LCD display.

The ASX features Mitsubishi’s full complement of emission-reduction and fuel-consumption-improving technology. It comes as standard with electric power steering, regenerative brakes (Generation Control System), low-rolling-resistance tyres, low-viscosity oil, LED lighting, and weight-reduction measures.

But when it comes to being serious motoring value, the ASX is definitely not a lightweight. Talk to the team at Freeborn Mitsubishi, take a ride in the latest diesel automatic ASX 5, and be convinced!
